I received several responses to my project post and hired one of the less experienced respondents that had a good rating. Turned out to be a licensed plumber trained in Ontario with clear hourly rate plus parts pricing. He came to my house, analyzed the problem, went to the local store for specialty parts and returned within an hour. The problem was permanently fixed right away. I have sourced other contractors for odd specialty jobs over the years using Homestars and the work in each case was performed quickly and accurately.

We opened a Homestar‘s account on July 6 hoping to generate some business for our small contracting company! Instead in a matter of less than 10 days we accumulated $285 in fees and we did not get an opportunity to look at one job!! We received inquiries from US numbers as well as on nonexistent numbers and as soon as you reply that you’re interested Homestar charges you. There’s an opportunity for homeowners to find someone to do their small jobs, but it’s not beneficial for a small contracting company, hefty fees for not one generated order learn from our mistake. Times are tough. Good luck out there.!

Michael Ryckman of KER Renovations was excellent..Mike did the job we requested plus couple of additional things. He was on time each day, very professional and friendly. Mike cleaned up after himself as he went along snd also when the job was complete. We would recommend Mike and will definitely call if something else comes up

HomeStars was an incredible tool for helping me find the right company for my small outdoor project. The entire process—from posting the job to receiving a response and getting the work fully completed—took only about a week. It was incredibly efficient, and I highly recommend using this site to find reliable local pros. ​Through the platform, I connected with Lumasso, and they were simply outstanding. I hired them to remove a destroyed back awning and install a new one. The crew, Tony and Joe, were professional, punctual, and completed the installation quickly. ​Not only did they complete the job flawlessly, but they also took down, hauled away, and disposed of the old awning without me even having to ask, leaving the entire deck area absolutely spotless. Thanks to HomeStars and the Lumasso team, the job was handled seamlessly and I can finally enjoy my deck all summer! I highly recommend Lumasso and would absolutely hire them again. I really think HomeStars needs to rethink how its lead system works. Right now, as soon as a homeowner shares their phone number or contact information, the contractor is automatically charged for the lead—even if the contractor never asked for their phone number, no meaningful conversation took place, or the homeowner never responds. Contractors have no choice in whether they're charged. The current system heavily benefits the person searching for a contractor. Homeowners can send their information to multiple businesses, collect several quotes, and simply choose the lowest price. Meanwhile, every contractor who receives that lead is charged, regardless of whether they ever get the job. I've personally been charged twice, totaling about $60, and neither lead went anywhere. No job, no response, just the charge. I completely understand that HomeStars needs to make money, but there should be a fairer system. Contractors shouldn't have to pay for leads that never result in a real conversation or genuine opportunity. There needs to be more protection for the businesses that are paying to use the platform.
