Payroll problems are incredibly stressful because the consequences are immediate — employees’ pay, taxes, bank withdrawals, deadlines, and the fear that my error may negatively affect the people who are such an important part of our organization. Over the past five years, I have needed ADP Payroll Support twice for errors I made, and both experiences were exceptional. Their approach is essentially, “No worries — we can fix this.” They immediately lower the stress level, calmly assess the problem, and then solve it efficiently and professionally. Today, I spoke with Karen at ADP Payroll Support shortly before 5:00 a.m. EDT on September 3, 2026. She was reassuring, knowledgeable, and remarkably easy to work with. She made a very stressful situation feel completely manageable. Having had the same excellent experience more than once tells me this is not just one great representative — it reflects strong training and a genuinely supportive culture at ADP. I barely think about payroll support when everything is going right. But when something goes wrong, that is when a company either loses your confidence or earns your loyalty. ADP earned ours. Reliable payroll is critically important. Reliable, caring support when there is a problem is invaluable.

As a new business owner, I want to share an honest experience for other entrepreneurs considering ADP. When you’re starting a company, choosing a payroll provider is one of the first major steps to becoming compliant and hiring employees responsibly. Naturally, a company as large and well-known as ADP seems like the logical partner. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. There were missed appointments, poor communication, and ultimately my business was declined without any meaningful explanation. For startups trying to do everything the right way, this is incredibly discouraging. New businesses are the backbone of the economy. Many of us are working tirelessly to build something legitimate and create jobs in our communities. Being turned away simply because a company is new sends a message that support is only available once you’re already established. Payroll providers should be helping small businesses get started — not shutting the door before they’ve even had a chance. I hope ADP takes a closer look at how their onboarding process treats startups, because the companies being turned away today could easily become the successful businesses of tomorrow.

Our company was with ADP TotalSource for many years, and the relationship was consistently contentious. We were repeatedly promised better service “tomorrow,” often paired with upgrades or discounts to keep us from leaving. While we focused on growing our business—eventually reaching over 300 employees—the poor service, rudeness, and ongoing incompetence within their PEO became impossible to ignore. I never intended to publicly air my dissatisfaction with ADP. However, after we formally notified them in October—per our contract—that we would be exiting at the end of the year, their behavior became outright harmful. Since giving notice, ADP TotalSource has seemingly done everything possible to hurt our business and sabotage our operations with our employees. They stalled payroll processes, failed to show up for scheduled meetings, and stopped returning calls altogether. This is, without question, the worst business relationship I have ever experienced. Poor management, awful service, and what I consider unethical business practices. I strongly recommend staying far away from ADP TotalSource. There are far better options available.

Worse payroll company ever. RUN away. Much better options for less. Zero customer service, hidden fees, ridiculous pricing compared to competitors, just all around a terrible experience.

i have never been so frustrated with a company. they did not file 941’s from 2019-2020. customer support is atrocious, employees are ignorant. i have been trying to get this figured out for over 6 hours. i was hung up on twice, denied transferring to a supervisor, told i would be sent the few records they had kept track of- then sent a file only saying we could not be sent it. NEVER use this company.
