Moving House: How to Choose a Removalist
By TradieCorner Team · · 1 min read

Moving day goes well when the removalist is prepared and so are you. Choosing the right company comes down to clear information, honest quotes and a little planning.
Give an accurate picture
Removalists quote based on volume, distance, access and time. List the large items, count the rooms, and mention stairs, lifts, narrow driveways or long walks from the truck. A video walk-through or an in-home look gives the most accurate quote.
Hourly or fixed price?
Many local moves are charged by the hour, often with a minimum. Interstate and larger moves are more often fixed price. Ask exactly when the clock starts and stops, and what's included. Our guide to fixed price versus hourly rates explains the trade-offs.
Questions to ask
- How many movers and what size truck will you send?
- Are blankets, wrapping and furniture protection included?
- Do you dismantle and reassemble beds and tables?
- Is there insurance for my goods in transit, and what does it cover?
- Do you offer packing, or boxes I can buy or borrow?
Prepare for moving day
- Pack and label boxes by room before the truck arrives
- Keep valuables, documents and medications with you
- Check parking or loading zone arrangements at both ends
- Defrost the fridge and empty the washing machine
