How to Regrout Bathroom Tiles

Fresh grout makes a tired bathroom look new and helps keep water out of the walls behind the tiles.

What you’ll need

  • grout saw or rake
  • grout to match your tile spacing
  • rubber float
  • sponge
  • bucket
  • and grout sealer

Step by step

  1. Rake out the old grout carefully without chipping the tiles.
  2. Vacuum the joints and wipe them clean.
  3. Press new grout into the joints diagonally with the float.
  4. Sponge off the excess, let it cure, then seal.

When to call a pro

loose or drummy tiles, leaks into the room next door, or failed waterproofing need a tiler or waterproofer, not just new grout.
