Bartlett Tree Experts

Bartlett used to be a fair, reliable and legitimate arborist. No longer! As a long-term customer, here are two examples of their rising prices and declining service from Chicago. 1) Last year we asked for an estimate to trim three ornamental fruit trees in our private yard. The quote came back with a whopping 48% increase from two years earlier. When I asked the Bartlett arborist about it, he gave some gobbledygook non-response and basically said 'take-it-or-leave-it.' 2) This past weekend, in a common area managed by our HOA, a large tree in front of my house lost a major branch blocking my deck and causing fence damage. There was no rain or wind at the time – just a big unexpected crash. A new Bartlett arborist came out to assess. But instead of providing a quote, they suggested the HOA use another company, citing concerns about timing, equipment availability and electrical wiring. - Foremost, with our HOA as a long-term client, I would have expected Bartlett to develop workable solutions, not refer us to another vendor. - The tree that fell had been evaluated three times by Bartlett since 2024, when another major branch had fallen. All three times, Bartlett said the tree was still viable and did not need to be removed. I realize that nothing is 100% when it comes to nature, but clearly Bartlett's assessment was wrong: this tree should have been removed in 2024. - Regarding timing: The arborist said Bartlett only has one cherry-picker. required for the tree removal. Interesting considering their own website says "substantial resources" for storm damage. - The Bartlett arborist cited the close proximity of electrical wiring as another concern. I'm 100% for safety! But another arborist company evaluating this situation did not feel that it was going to impede the work. Plus, Bartlett has certainly trimmed around the same wires multiple times in the past without expressing any concern. (It's also urban Chicago: working around wiring is just part of any job.) Basically Bartlett abandoned us even though we are long-term customers. Between rapidly increasing prices and lack of reliable service, I can definitively say there are better choices for arborists than Bartlett. In fact, based on these circumstances, I wonder if they're leaving the residential market altogether? PS: Alerted the corporate office about my concerns. Their response: radio silence.

Excellent! I couldn't be happier with Bartlett's service. Ryan arrived promptly at our scheduled time and gave me a fair estimate. Jose and his crew arrived right on time, did great work and left the place in perfectly clean condition. Don't hesitate to use this company.

Ryan and the crew were fantastic. From the first day when he came to evaluate what the problem was with the tree I was calling about, to diagnosing it and providing me with an array of options to address the issue. Unfortunately, my tree had to come down due to excessive rot. It was a tough job since they were not able to bring the truck with the bucket since the tree was in the middle of others and couldn't be reached. The crew that climbed the tree to cut it down in pieces and bring it down was very professional and careful with my property. They worked fast but safely and let my property perfectly clean of branches and debris. I am planning on having Bartlett continue to take care of the trees in my property, hopefully needing to just maintaining them healthy!

Fantastic team. 10th home I’ve owned, not the first wooded property but arguably the most dense. Ive been so pleased with my relationship with Bartlett - and now in this new location with Eric and his team. They’ve been mindful of budget, and care and have been so responsive. I can wholeheartedly recommend.

We had an emergency tree fall situation and I truly cannot say enough good things about this company. From the moment we called, they were incredibly responsive, professional, and reassuring during a stressful time. They arrived quickly, assessed the situation with confidence, and got right to work. The crew was efficient, skilled, and clearly knew exactly what they were doing. They handled everything safely and thoroughly, and left the area cleaner than I expected. It’s not often you find a company that combines urgency, professionalism, and genuine care for their customers but they absolutely delivered on all fronts. I’m so grateful for their help and would highly recommend them to anyone in need of tree services, especially in an emergency.
