How Tradies Can Cut Down on No-Shows and Late Cancellations
By TradieCorner Team · · 1 min read

A customer no-show or a late cancellation doesn't just cost the booked time — it's travel time, a gap that's hard to refill on short notice, and, often, a job you now have to chase to reschedule. A few simple habits reduce how often it happens.
Confirm the booking, not just make it
A booking made days in advance is easy to forget. A short confirmation message the day before, or the morning of, is one of the cheapest ways to cut no-shows — it gives the customer a chance to reschedule properly instead of simply not answering the door.
Be specific about the time window
A vague 'sometime in the morning' invites people to plan around it loosely, which makes last-minute cancellations more likely when something else comes up. A tighter window, communicated clearly, tends to get treated more seriously.
- Send a short reminder with the date, time window and job description
- Make it easy to reschedule with a simple reply, rather than requiring a phone call
- Note repeat no-shows against a customer's record so you can factor it in next time
- Consider a small deposit for jobs where cancellations are a recurring problem
Make rescheduling easy, not punishing
Customers reschedule for real reasons more often than they blow off appointments deliberately. A straightforward, low-friction way to rebook keeps the relationship intact and often still gets you the job — just on a different day.
